The Provincial Government of Nova Scotia has legislated an increase in the HST from 13% to 15% effective July 1, 2010. This will affect the tax applied to the purchase of goods and services particularly in reference to the timing of the delivery of these purchases.
- Any product sold and delivered to a customer before July 1, 2010, the old HST rate of 13% applies.
- Any product sold and paid for before July 1, 2010, but not delivered until July 1, 2010 or after, the old HST Rate of 13% would apply. Note that this is for the product only.
- For installation services performed before July 1, 2010, the old HST rate of 13% applies.
- For installation services performed on or after July 1, 2010, the new HST rate of 15% would apply. Payment by the customer prior to July 1, 2010 does not matter; the new HST rate of 15% would still apply.
